Police in Transzoia are still investigating a case in which a police officer identified as Rionosia Maiywa ended his life by shooting himself on the head just moments before the time he was expected to report for a night patrol.
According to Cherangany OCPD Okumu Dulo, the late officer did not display any signs of distress. Prior to the alleged suicide, he went to a nearby shop and bought eggs before proceeding to his house to cook them and ugali for supper.
His jiko was on at the time when he was found dead in his room. The cause of the suicide remains unclear since he never left any note behind.
The body is lying at Cherangany hospital mortuary where a postmoterm examination is expected to be conducted.
Cases of suicides among police officers have been on the rise in the recent past. Many of the cases are linked to poor working conditions and financial difficulties.
