Kenya Village Where Praying For Rain Is Like Praying For Danger

Despite the ongoing droughts in the country leaving many people resort to daily rain prayers, there is however one controversial village known as Giciiki village where praying for rain is like praying for danger and people live in fear if heavy downpour begins.

The village is located in Athi River between upper Machakos and Kiambu Counties and is well known for floods whenever it begins to rain.

People there fear rains like death. This is because unlike other places in the world where rains are considered a blessing, here the waters usually attracts very dangerous animals like crocodiles, snakes and hippos which leave locals in danger of survival.

According to one local identified as Njogu who sought anonymity for investigation purposes, he has said that they are never interested in rains and prefer drought instead since they know the dangers rains poses to them.

"We are not very interested in rain as this could be disastrous to us as it has been before. We don’t want to find ourselves in the same mess of seeing our property swim into the ravaging floods. It will also be unfortunate to witness attacks by animals such as hippos, crocodiles, and snakes,” Njogu said.

During rainy seasons in the region, the great Athi river sometimes bursts leaving all the water flowing to people's homes and as a result, submerging houses.

Apparently, the government has on many occasions displaced people out of there to safer grounds.

Meanwhile, please leave your opinions below if you find the story interesting.
