There has been a fire at Ofafa Jericho High School in Nairobi County. The fire started at around 9PM while students were in class. The students came out of their classes and tried to salvage whatever remain of their belongings in their respective dormeteries. In the process, Some students were burnt and they were taken to Metropolitan Hospital in Burubure where they received first aid and some hospitalized after they inhaled smoke when they were trying to put the fire out.The Nairobi fire fighters arrived at the scene late and were not able to do much.
The cause of the fire is not yet established the authorities believe that it is due to the electric fault however it might also have been caused by students. Schools have been experiencing student unrest and many of these unrest have led to burning of schools.
The cause of fires in schools have often been associated with strict rules and regulations which have been laid down by the schools.
It is only less than two weeks before the term ends and if it spreads to other schools, it will see most schools closing earlier than expected.
