The mountain last erupted in 2002 and it has not been active since then and people have been living in peace. On top of the Coronavirus pandemic, this couldn't have come at a worse time.

The people of Goma are now staring at homelessness and refugee status as they try to run away from the city. The International Airport here is not spared as the lava has already reached it.

The world is praying for the people of Congo and especially Goma for this disaster to abate without casualties. A lot of the residents have seemed refuge in the neighboring country of Rwanda where they have been welcomed with open arms.
