It was a last-minute change of plan that almost wiped out an entire Mombasa family after they were involved in a road accident at Mackinnon along Mombasa-Nairobi Highway on Christmas day.
Ronald Bundi, his wife Veronicah Opake, his daughters Marione, Natalia and Claire perished in the grisly accident as they travelled from Mombasa to Kisii.
His two sons Mike(9) and Venand(2), survived and are currently recuperating at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital.
One of the close family members speaking to the media said, Bundi had planned to leave all his children behind with a cousin before he changed his mind.
It is yet to be established what led to the change of plans with a number Alleging its because he got private means to travel to his village.
According to some earlier reports, Bundi was trying to overtake several trucks when the horrifying road accident occurred.
Four of the family members died on spot with a young girl dying in hospital where she was receiving treatment.
In the entire family of seven only two young boys survived the horrifying ordeal, all who spoke during their burial ceremony yesterday called for all able kenyans to help the orphaned kids.
