“This Is Totally Unacceptable” What Chebukati Told Returning Officers Who Are at Bomas

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has said returning officers should be doing other duties but they have spent days at Bomas waiting to be cleared.

Chebukati speaking on Saturday at Bomas said it was unacceptable that the process to clear returning officers takes between 3 to 4 hours.

Chebukati told the retuning officers to instead hand over original results to the National Returning Officer so that the verification process will be quick.

“It is taking three to four hours to process one returning officer. As a result, some of our returning officers have stayed here for days siting on these chairs. This is totally unacceptable,” said Chebukati.

“To guarantee faster process of the results, the returning officers who are on queue should hand over original results to National Returning Officer and then report to the ICT desk for verification of original forms 34As against transmitted forms 34As,” said Chebukati.

The IEBC chairman said he wants the returning officers to be cleared faster so they can do other duties instead of spending hours doing nothing at the National Tallying centre.

“The process will be fastened and we should be able to dispose of the returning officers so they can go and do other duties,” added Chebukati.
