"The cultural ceremony will be done followed by buying of a banana trunk in the grave,"said the lady's husband, former police officer Daniel Chiro. He said a priest will lead prayers in his home before the function.

Chiro said the body of his better half vanished on Monday night from the grave at Mabirikani in Bonje area of Rabai Constituency in Kilifi County.

The Rabai police boss Fred Abuga said a request a file on the case has been opened and given over to Criminal Directorate of Criminal Investigations officials to investigate the matter.

Recently, Chiro said that his family had chosen to bury the banana trunk as per customs of the Duruma, one of the nine Mijikenda sub-clans, despite the fact that he is a Christian.

Chiro said his family was in torment and misery and they had chosen to get over the misfortune by burying the banana trunk.
