Police in Kirinyaga are holding in custody a 53-year-old man who allegedly murdered his mother in Kiarigi village in Mwea East.
Ephantus Kiura Ndambiri was caught and arrested in his hideout at Gacuriri village in Mbeere, Embu County.
Ndambiri reportedly hit his 75-year-old mother, Grace Muthoni, with a blunt object and killed her instantly.
The suspect is said to have slashed his mother during a row over Ksh.6000 shillings which she allegedly declined to give him.
When his mother refused, the suspect went back to his house, returned with a blunt object and stabbed her.
Neighbours who heard the commotion, went to the home and found the body of Muthoni lying in a pool of blood.
Neigbours said that the suspect is an alcoholic who often demands money from his mother and beats her up whenever she declines.
The body of the deceased was taken to nearby mortuary as the suspect is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
