On Friday, December 16, 2022 Inspector General Japheth Koome while speaking during a press conference urged police officers to use their guns to protect themselves when their lives are in danger. According to IG Koome, police are provided with fire arms to protect themselves citizens and properties.
Speaking on Sunday at Mararal Catholic Church in Samburu, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said that he supports Inspector General Japheth Koome's order to police officers to use guns to protect themselves against criminals.

IG Koome on Friday told off people who are calling for arrest of the police officers adding that police officers should not be attacked and fail to use their fire arms as self defense. For the last few years, several police officers have lost their lives after being attacked by criminals.
