Homabay residents view bodies of ten people who died in Lake Victoria boat tragedy.

The development comes only a day after autopsy were conducted on the bodies of 10 people who succumbed on Tuesday last week in a boat tragedy in Lake Victoria near Pier beach within Homa Bay Town at the county Referral Hospital.

Sources privy to the alleged incident revealed that autopsy was performed yesterday morning by Dr. Peter Ogolla in the presence of family members of the departed souls.

While addressing the press after the autopsy, Dr. Ogolla who also doubles as the hospital Chief Executive Officer stated that they issued burial permits to the bereaved families.

He also said that all the ten bodies were already identified by their kins during the autopsy process.

Today Tuesday, September 28 a requiem mass for the deceased were underway at a ground near Homa Bay Vocational training centre located few distance from the shore of Lake Victoria.

The mass was led by the county Chaplain who will handover the bodies to respective families and relatives for burial.

Homabay County Director for Disaster Eliud Onyango earlier confirmed that the Homa Bay County Government will cater for all the burial expenses together with buying coffins plus paying for their transportation.

The 10 passengers lost their lives while heading to Ndhuru beach in Mbita Sub County from Pier Beach in Homa Bay Town. Eight people who were on board were saved from the tragedy.
