Doctor Issues This Warning on Dangers of Eating Kibandaski Food

Street food is not bad but it might cause great harm to those who consume it as there is so much contamination in the air and on the streets.

A medical doctor from one of the private hospitals in Kiambu Dr. Michael Gandu while speaking from the health facility cautioned that owing to the contamination in the environment that the street vendors operated from, people should take precautions.

"I can't say that street food is not good, but I would not advocate for it," he said adding that street food is more junk food which is at some point harmful for human consumption.

He explained that some vendors used crude methods while preparing the foods and that since most of the fast foods was sold along major streets in Kiambu town, it was risky to consume it and that people should endeavour to prepare their own foods at home or go to licensed eateries where operations were supervised by the Public Health Department

Despite the dangers associated with street foods, they have attracted a large number of university students who live in hostels in Kiambu and Kirigiti areas.

According to Olive Nyakio, a student at Mount Kenya University, such foods sold by the roadside were very affordable.

"Street food is at all times delicious," she said, adding that her clique of friends have at all times had some love for food sold by the streets because they do not get enough money from their parents which could enable them to eat from hotels.

As for Jackline Kidaha who resides at Kirigiti in Kiambu, street food is never her option. She said that food sold on the streets seemed to be contaminated and harmful for the body.

She said that given the fact that street food is very affordable, it is never her option and that people should not encourage such businesses that compromised their health.
