A Kakamega man is suspected of killing his 89-year-old grandmother and torching her home as a result of an argument started by the elderly person's financial allowance.
According to reports, the woman perished in a fire in Eshitimba Village, Khusiku sub-location, Khwisero sub-county, which destroyed her home.
Firstborn daughter Mary Okiso, 70, claims that her mother was murdered because she refused to pay the suspect money.
When the village elder visited the grandmother to inform her that the government had released money for her to be paid, the suspect, according to Okiso, believed she had been handed money.
The elderly mother was allegedly attacked by the suspected grandson, a 40-year-old drug addict, after she refused to give him the money he had asked.
She refused his request, which infuriated the suspect, who then damaged the nearby banana plantation and other crops.
According to reports, his neighbors restrained him. He was kept indoors by a lock.
How he managed to get out of the house and end up burning the grandma in her home is unknown.
They are in the hands of the suspect, according to Samuel Kogo, head of the Khwisero Sub-County Police.
He claimed that after locals attempted to attack him in Ebukambuli market, they saved him from being publicly lynched.
