Police Officer Shoots Himself While Trying To Confront Motorbike That Was Being Ridden By Colleague

A Muthangari Police Officer is nursing an injury at a city hospital after he accidentally shot himself as he tried to confront a suspicious motorbike that was approaching the station.

Constable Benedict Mwendwa is nursing a serious leg wound after his gun discharged one bullet.

Mwendwa was on duty when he spotted the motorcycle approaching the station. In the process, the officer cocked the gun and shouted at the rider. He lowered his AK47 rifle when it accidentally discharged one bullet, injuring his leg.

The officer raised alarm and alerted his colleagues who rushed to the scene and attended to him before they rushed him to the hospital.

The officer is in stable condition as probe into the incident continues. His loaded firearm has been kept in the armoury.

According to a police report, it is alleged that the motorcycle was being ridden by a police officer who was heading to his residence within the station.
