Collapsed Kinoo Building Owners Defied Demolition Orders, Says County Government Official

The county government has put itself aside from the poorly-constructed building that collapsed in Kinoo, Kikuyu sub-county.

Through Housing Executive Mugo Kimani, the county noted it cautioned the owners of the building, George Kamau and Florence Wairimu, to halt the construction in January but they flouted the order.

Kimani added on January 18, the county government sent notification to the owners, cautioning them that the building was coming up without legal signatures from the county.

On Monday, Kimani requested that the poorly-constructed building be demolished forthwith.

"Should you fail to demolish the building forthwith, the county government will chip in and perform the demolition at your own expense and without further caution, " the housing executive cautioned.

The move came as demolition of the poorly-constructed building entered the second day on Monday morning.

Tenants who were staying next to the building in plots were urged to seek alternative shelter until the area is secured by the county government.

The poorly-constructed building tilted on Friday and crumbled as locals witnessed.

Workers on site had left. Nobody sustained serious injuries in the incident.
