Police in Ol Moran, Laikipia County are now tracing d the herders who attacked and inflicted grievous bodily harm on the assistant administrator.
Githima sub-location Assistant administrator Peter Waciuri was ironing out the differences between herders and farmers on Tuesday when the herders attacked him with clubs and swords.
According to Kirima Sub County Deputy County Commissioner John Orata, the suspects, said to have come from the near Samburu County, had fled with their cattle into a fruit farm.
Orata added that the assistant chief was rushed to the Nyahururu County Referral hospital bleeding profusely on his head injuries after the attack.
James Kariuki, a farm owner, told the press that fruits worth Ksh.600,000 were destroyed by the herders' cattle.
The attack led to a verbal between residents and some herders, with locals blocking the herders from gaining access to water sources in the region.
Following the skirmishes, the Deputy County Commissioner has ordered herders who are presently staying in the area to back to their counties.
He confirmed that from tomorrow, police will chase away illegal herders from the counties such as Isiolo, Samburu and Baringo out of Laikipia county.
