13th October 2021,was a sad and tragic day after a sombre mood engulfed Iten town in the afternoon, as residents of Elgeyo Marakwet county tried to come to terms with the bitter reality that the award-winning athletee Agnes Tirop is no more after she was murdered.
Agnes Tirop who broke the ten thousand meter race in Germany in September is said to have met her untimely death at her Iten home in Elgeyo Marakwet county in the night under what was suspected to be a love triangle with her alleged love Emmanuel Kipleting.
According to The Star digital news media platform, a suspected love triangle is believed to be the reason the lover attacked Agnes after he got wind that she had preferred staying back at her athletic camp rather than with him. This seems to have justified the husbands notion that another man was involved in the dwindling relationship that had hit the rocks immediately after her exemplary performance in Japan.
However, after the husband performed that heineous act, he we t at large before police officers launched a hunt for him.
Fortunately, the deceased husband of 2015 cross country Champion Agnes Tirop was arrested in Mombasa over her murder in Iten.
This was confirmed by the Director of Criminal investigating Officer Kinoti.
