A tussle over a family couch in Nyeri county led to the hacking to death of a senior brother who was out to reposses the sofa as per the instructions from the mother.
The horrific incident that occurred on Wednesday in broad daylight shook villagers to the core.
Acording to The DCI, 39 year old Joseph Maina was acting on the instructions from their mother to reclaim a three seater sofa that was in Elias Muriithi's home. But upon the inquiry, the younger brother Muriithi declined to hand over the sofa.
A bitter argument ensued between the two. Muriithi is alleged to have wielded a sharp machete and slashed his brother to the ground. To finish him off, he hit the brother on the head with the side of the machete killing him on the spot.
Realizing his actions and fearing to by lynched by his irate locals,Muriithi is reported to have surrendered to the nearby police station Mathari police post. Residents who arrived at the scene, found Maina lifeless in a pool of blood.
Officers from Mathari arrived and took away the body to the mortuary. The Criminal investigation detectives combed the crime scene and took pictures for evidence. A thorough investigation has been launched to reach the core of the conflict.
