Kenyan roads have been described as exceptionally dangerous for vulnerable users like children, out of whom a significant number of them are among those killed and injured.
Several students are feared dead following an accident at Kambiti along the Kenol-Makutano Road.
The students are said to have died on the spot while several others are reported to have been injured and have been rushed to Kenol hospital.
The accident involved several vehicles including two matatus, a lorry and two personal cars.
The number of fatalities have not been established
The students were heading to Meru at the time of accident.
The cause of the accident was yet to be established. The wreckage of the vehicles are still at the scene.
The increasing number of accidents has led to a major crackdown in the country with police officers, alongside officials from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), pitching camp on busy highways and routes across the country.
