On Tuesday night, a middle-aged guy from Gaturi in Kiharu, Murang'a, passed away from a bee sting.
James Wambu is alleged to have fallen asleep on one of the surrounding farms while on his way home from a nearby shopping center after having a few drinks there.
Witnesses said that some young men went to a hole at the farm where the dead was sleeping to pick honey.
The guys fled when they were overpowered by the bees during this operation, but Wambu was too inebriated and was unable to flee for his life.
One of the witnesses said, "The location where the men were picking honey is few meters from where the victim was resting."
The bees assaulted Wambu and left him for dead when the perpetrators fled, the speaker continued.
Peter Gethi, the area assistant chief, claimed that when he arrived at the scene after receiving a call from a resident informing him of the occurrence, the man had already passed away.
"We called the police, who came to retrieve the body and take it to the mortuary while they start their inquiries," according to Gethi.
However, the relatives are calling for justice for their cousin, saying that the men who went to gather honey ought to have thought about getting rid of him before continuing their task.
According to a family member, James Kamau, "They saw him sleeping there because he was drunk and did not consider the risk they were exposing him to, resulting to his death."
