Rains Expose Poor Drainage in the Expressway as Construction Take Top Gear.

The construction of the Expressway is on top gear, towards the completion of the final phase. The road is expected to be a solution to the Mombasa road traffic nightmare. However the rains in Nairobi has given the contractor a new challenge, the need to recheck on drainage.

The road though constructed with existing drainage channels, heavy rains are easily flooding the road making it impassable in a normal usage. The drainage pipes are also draining to the earlier Mombasa road drainage, this is also making it flood, creating another problem.

A survey need to be done quickly to help come up with a solution before the worst happen as heavy short rains start falling with much higher intensity. Construction is also expected to stall with rain start. The super construction speed should also be closely monitored to avoid compromise on the standards. The road is expected to be complete and into use in the first quarter of 2022. Pilot testing is expected bto be done early next year.
