A middle-aged man on Thursday fatally shot his wife, five children, and mother-in-law before turning gun on self in Enoch town, Utah.

Officials said they believe Michael Haight murdered his 40-year-old wife Tausha Haight; his mother-in-law; and the five children as each one of them appeared to have gunshot wounds.

Tausha Haight’s mother, 78-year-old Gail Earl, is said to have been staying with the family at the time.

Among the 5 children ranging between the ages of 4 to 17 were 7-year-old twins.

Nation reported that the 42-year-old man was going through divorce as the killings came barely two weeks after his wife had filed for divorce.

Enoch Police Chief Jackson Ames said relevant authorities have already launched investigations into the murder-suicide incident, with preliminary reports suggesting possible earlier problems inside the household.

“Investigators were aware of the divorce petition but didn’t know if it was the motivation behind the killings,” Mayor Geoffrey Chesnut told sources.

News about the killings are said to have rocked the small town of Enoch in southern Utah about halfway between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.

The death came as a shocker to many as the deceased are said to have been members of the faith and well-known in the town.
