Elderly people in Bungoma county have received a sigh of relief after the county government of Bungoma donated beddings and other essential commodities to them.

Speaking at Kiwanjandege grounds in Bungoma, a host of the elderly said they undergo a lot of suffering after being left alone at their homes.
Most of them no longer have energy to work or have no close people to give them psychosocial support, what they say has led to some of them living miserable lives.
In addition, they have called upon the national government in collaboration with the county government to promote social protection citing that it calls for concerted efforts to have their woes addressed.
Bungoma county Deputy Governor Jennifer Mbatiany who issued the beddings to them affirmed commitment of Governor Lusaka's administration in promoting their comfort.
"Governor Lusaka values all of you and he is there for you, be assured that he is willing to address all your concerns," she said.
Mbatiany has also acknowledged the crucial role of the elderly in giving advice to younger generations adding that it has facilitated the positive cascading of roles down from generation to generation.
She has also urged the youths to take care of their parents and grand parents so that they do not languish in agony.
The office of the Governor also offered a free medical camp to the elderly where many were diagnosed and given free medication. The county government of Bungoma also pledged to enroll all the senior citizens on NHIF in a bid to realize universal health care for the aged.
This was done in the marking of the international day of the elderly.
