Swimming in public beaches banned by government, Reason revealed

Swimming in public beaches beyond 5:30 pm has been banned by the government.

Drunk individuals have also been banned from swimming by Salim Mvurya, the Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary.

The Cabinet Secretary was speaking at Kongo beach, kwale county where he said that a multi agency team has been instructed to enforce the ban in Indian Ocean and Lake Victoria.

He added that unworthy boats will be cracked down and also enforce the use of life jackets properly. The jackets standardswill also be inspected.

Mr. Mvurya said the move was because of some beach operators using unsave vessels during these festival seasons due to large number of makers.

The ban follows a incident at pirates beach, mombasa where a tragedy left two family members dead on Sunday evening.

In the accident, eleven family members were involved where two lost their lives and one member is in intensive care unit.
