The Nairobi expressway project is a 27.1km road project beginning from Mlolongo through the Jomo Kenyatta International airport and Nairobi CBD to Westlands area along Waiyaki way. The over US $560m road project is the first project in Kenya to be carried out through PPP model.
The Nairobi expressway will have four lane and six lane dual carriage within the existing median of Mombasa road, Uhuru highway and Waiyaki way as well as 10 interchanges.The section between the Eastern and southern bypass will be a six lane dual carriageway while the section from the Eastern bypass and that from the southern bypass to the James Gichuru will be a four lane dual carriage.
The elevated highway will begin near Ole Sereni Hotel and run through CBD along the Uhuru highway up to the James Gichuru Junction..Haille Sillasie road, Kenyatta avenue and University will be below the elevated road. The construction of the Nairobi expressway will help in reduction of traffic congestion in the city that was exprienced earlier.This has also become kenyas main achievement towards the vision 2030.
