Gertrude Chepkoech (pictured above), a student at Laikipa university died on Wednesday night after being stabbed multiple times by a her roommate's boyfriend.
The suspect, only known as Ezra then tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself after he committed the heinous crime.
He was rushed to Nyahururu referral hospital where he also succumbed to his Injuries.
“We have been informed that the suspect was a regular visitor to the hostels, and that he was in a relationship with the deceased’s friend-cum-roommate,” said Mary Kiema, Nyahururu sub county police commander.
According to a cleaner working at the hostels, she heard a distress call from Gertrude's hostel, upon rushing there, she found the deceased in a pool of blood.
That's when Exzra turned the knife on himself after he was seen.
"When I entered the room, I found Chepkoech lying in a pool of blood on the floor. Standing next to her body, was the suspect, who stabbed himself repeatedly in the neck and stomach upon seeing me. I alerted the hostel’s management, who took the young man to hospital,” said Njeri the cleaner.
Njeri added she had been seeing the suspect enter the hostel several times.
