After her parents admonished her for refusing to return to school, a Form Two girl at Naburereya Secondary School in Bungoma County committed suicide on Monday September 6.
The student identified as Joan Wekesa hanged herself in the leased residence of her lover in Kabula market.
According to Citizen Tv, the mother went to the market where the daughter had spent the previous night and condemned her, requesting that she return to school.
“I was told by a neighbor that Joan had spent a night with a man who works at a local concrete making company but when I came and questioned her she looked at me and kept quiet,” she said.
The number of students who commit suicide by hanging themselves has increased in recent years, and parents, in partnership with the government, should devise new ways to encourage their children to avoid early 'connections', which endangers and tampers with their future.
