It is always with deep sadness that such news has to be reported in our country. This is after a similar incident happened in Nairobi a while back with an officer attached to the VIP protection unit at the Interior Ministry.
It's emerged that an officer at the Waita Prison which is found in Mwingi has shot dead his wife and child. Details of the incident are still sketchy at this time but the bodies have been moved to the mortuary.
Waita Prison is found in Kitui County and this incident has shocked the residents of the area. Fellow officers have also been left puzzled as to what could have triggered this heinous act by the officer on his own family.
This news comes in barely a few days after a Prisons Officer took to social media lamenting how broke he is. The officer said that he has not received salary for around four months and he's thinking about ending his life.
Well wishers came to the rescue and people were able to raise some cash for the officer. The government needs to do more to help our officers especially with mental health as it seems some can't cope.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mwingi Hospital Mortuary as investigations into the incident commence. We pray for the bereived at this critical hour.
