Three police officers accused of playing part in Masten Wanjala's prison break

Three police officers were charged of collaborating with killer Masten Wanjali, escape from police custody. The self-proclaimed killer had escaped from the Jogoo police station in Nairobi, Bungoma district. These are Inspector Philip Mbithi and Officers Kamakia Mutuma Boniface and Precious Mwende Mwinzi, have denied Wanjali’s assistance in the murder suspect in his escape from Jogoo Police Station on the night of 12-13 October 2021.

They were also accused of disregarding their duty to prevent Wanjala from escaping the police cell. The three were released on bail of Ksh.150,000. Wanjala, who confessed to killing 12 children, was detained at the station for 91 days until he was killed. The court had asked the police to detain him for 14 days.

Police lawyer Danstan Omari told the court they are filing an appeal against the police crime against them. According to him, the case should be resolved through the administration and not through a crime. The case will be referred to another judge and will be heard on November 4, 2021.
