According to a resident who spoke on Tuesday, September 7, the huge fire razed down most of the stalls in the roadside market at Inner City area, opposite the weighbridge.
The resident further stated that the residents and traders were in the early morning hours struggling to contain the huge inferno while others tried to salvage their belongings.
Very little was salvaged from the affected stalls and buildings as the fire rapidly spread leaving behind a trail of destruction.
By the time of going to press, authorities were yet to establish the cause of the inferno as well as give an account of the assessment and the magnitude of the losses incurred.
It is recommended that Government should institute fire professionals to handle design and operation of markets.
