Charles Njonjo served as the first African attorney general from 1963 to 1979 and later served as the minister of constitutional affairs during the late president Moi's era. He was born in 1920 and is currently 102 years old.
Charles Njonjo was reported to have died yesterday, in a Twitter post that belonged to the former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, at the age of 102 years. However, the family responded to the post and cleared rumors on James Njonjo's death. The family said that the former attorney general is well and enjoying his weekend. Njonjo said," reports of my death have greatly been exaggerated. I'm welland enjoying my weekend at home as we celebrate utamaduni Day."
This afternoon, Sonko took to his twitter account to apologize for having relayed a wrong message. His tweet read "I sincerely wish to apologize to the family of the former attorney general Charles Njonjo and Kenyans in general for the misleading information that Charles had gone to be with the Lord."
