The accident was confirmed by a Guardian bus service employee from the Kisii office. She however did not provide details on the number of passengers, the severity of the injuries or whether any fatalities had been reported. Several of the passengers reportedly suffered major injuries as a result of the incident.
The Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, where the injured passengers were transported, is located seven kilometers from the scene of the accident. The injured are currently receiving assistance from locals and service providers as emergency rescue operations continue.
People who saw the disaster have reported that the guardian angel bus was struck by a lorry, which caused it to lose control and crash into the river. Guardian Angel's Kisii branch has stated that the Nairobi head office will release a statement regarding the event. This comes after another fatal accident occured along Nakuru Nairobi highway where several casualties were reported. Drivers are advised to be keen on the roads because accidents have recently increased.
