Local brewing of chang'aa which is very common in Western Kenya and other parts of the country.
Eight people are reported dead while 22 are nursing wounds after consuming stolen alcohol in Shinyalu, Kakamega County. As reported by West Tv, the incident happened at Shina village in Shinyalu.
The victims claim that the liquor brewer used black magic in order to punish them for stealing the drink. Apart from those eight who succumbed, the 22 have developed unusual wounds on their left arms.
Incidents of people resolving to use black magic or simply witchcraft is very common in many places even in this modern world. In other cases, victims who have had their property stolen have sought assistance from witchdoctors who make thieves feed on grass or even return the stolen items.
Like in this incident, some have developed health complications or mental illness. Though some recover after returning the items or after other interventions, the rest have lived with the complications their entire lives.
