Rape Obscene

I Was Sexually Assaulted By My Dad- Young Woman Narrates How Her Dad Molested Her From Young Age

The case of Zayla Odell is a stark reminder of the prevalence of sexual abuse and assault in Nigeria.

Zayla, a 22- year- old woman, recently took to Twitter to share her traumatic experience of being sexually and physically abused by her father for several years.

She disclosed that the abuse started when she was just eight years old, and it continued for many years. Zayla revealed that her mother was aware of the abuse but did nothing to stop it.

Zayla' s story is not unique in Nigeria, where a recent poll by NOIPOLLS found that 85% of Nigerians believe that rape is prevalent in the country.

The same poll revealed that about 3 in 10 Nigerians know someone who has been raped in the past, with the majority of the victims being minors and young adults aged between 1- 25 years. This is a sobering statistic that highlights the urgent need for action to prevent sexual abuse and assault in Nigeria.

Zayla' s account of her ordeal is heartbreaking. She described how her father not only sexually abused her but also physically, verbally, mentally, and financially abused her. Zayla recounted how she was coerced into having sexual intimacy with her father, and when she refused, he threatened not to pay her school fees. The abuse was so severe that Zayla had to drop out of school and flee to a new state when she turned 19.
