City Mortuary Gives Kenyans 1 Week To Go For Their Unclaimed Bodies

As it's written on the Public Health Act Cap 242, an unclaimed body should be removed from the mortuary within 14 days(2weeks). Failure to which the body is disposed off in a mass grave after public officers obtain a court's permission.

On Tuesday, a notice by the Deputy Director General Fredrick Oluga said Kenyans should identify and collect the bodies. Failure to which they will be interred by the Nairobi Metropolitan Service. He went further and said that the mortuary has the capacity to hold only 176 bodies.

He revealed that 115 bodies are from March to May 2021, while 49 were from the last 2 months in the year 2020. However, the police have been accused of negligence on following up the owners of the respective bodies.

The Nairobi City Mortuary has given Kenyans only a week, that is, 7 days to come and collect their unclaimed bodies which are now lying on the morgue floor.
