President William Ruto has affirmed that his government will turn every stone to unravel the mystery behind Shakahola Farm Massacre where hundreds of followers have been confirmed dead.For weeks end, a multi-agency group has been camping in Paul Mackenzie's vast 800-hectare farm in Malindi to rescue survivors, exhume and conduct autopsy to ascertain what killed who. Speaking at a church service in Milimani AIC, the head of state said his government will crack the whip on errant preachers should probe link them to the massacre.The celebrated pastor Ezekiel Odero of New Life Prayer Centre found himself in the mix after trails from his Mavueni based church led detectives to Mackenzie, it is alleged that the duo have been accomplices for years end.
Insofar, the government has freezed Ezekiel's bank and Mpesa accounts, held Mackenzie behind the bars and a commission of enquiry has been put in place to probe the massacre.Atleast 203 bodies have been exhumed with the exhumation process ongoing, tens of followers are reported missing and on a positive note tens of followers have been rescued. Ruto's sentiments comes days after deputy president defended the government's purge on churches.
In a recent church address, Rigathi maintained that Ruto government is determined to safeguard the constitution by doing among other things cherishing the freedom of worship adding that the only thing they oppose is a group of crooks who have infiltrated the church to advance their dark agendas.The embattled pastors have exuded confidence that they will overcome the tests, in their defense, Ezekiel's lawyers Cliff Ombeta and Danston Omari have blamed the government alleging that they are after their client's vast economic empire.
On matters cracking whips on controversial preachers and churches, the government has hitherto arrested a number of religious leaders among them the self-proclaimed Yesu Wa Tongaren. The law enforcers also ambushed Msamweni cult saving tens of followers from possible misguidance.
