Investigators that were working together with CIPU officers attached to the Kenya Revenue Authority were attacked by a gang of 20 men riding on motorcycles.
The incident occurred as the officers embarked on a journey to Kisumu after seizing assorted 400 bags of sugar that was inside a lorry headed to an unknown destination.
During the escort operation the team came under attack when more than 20 vehicles and unknown number of motorcycles with concealed number plates disrupted their pilgrimage.
One of our officers was seriously attacked and injured during the ensuing mayhem and suffered multiple injuries on his chest and limbs.
Where It not for the intervention by officers from Kakamega that was on their way to Chwele things would have escalated to unknown proportions.
Three vehicles used by the suspects and a motorcycle were impounded as police managed to arrest several crooks involved in the daring acts.
Police also discovered crude weapons that included Rungus and rocks, and have since been processed as exhibits that will be arraigned in court together with the suspects.
