'Who Did the Research' - Kenyans React, Criticize Nairobi's Ranking as the Best African City

Yesterday, Expat Ranking ranked Kenya's capital and largest city Nairobi as Africa's best city to work in. Nairobi beat other large African cities such as Johannesburg, Cape Town and Cairo. This was an improvement from position 62 out of 66 in 2020.

After the ranking, Kenyans who seemed to be confused about the research have taken it to social media platforms to criticize the ranking terming it untrue and unreliable. They argued that Nairobi City cannot beat other African cities alleging that the city has poorly planned sewerage and garbage collection systems. As a result, the city has a big burden of garbage collection.

Looking at their comments, what Kenyans have failed to understand is that the ranking was for the 'best city to work in' but not the best overall city in terms of outlook and architecture.

The research that was conducted among expatriates ( foreign nationals working in Kenya), most of them expressed their opinions naming Nairobi as the best city to work in in Africa. This is because of the ease of settlement and finding houses in Nairobi possibly made possible by president Uhuru's better housing project.

Screenshots of the different opinions by a few Kenyans have been shared her in.
