Several passengers escaped death by a whisker after a 14-seater matatu they were travelling in lost control and rolled along the Meru-Embu highway.
The matatu belonging to Maua Nissan Shuttle was heading towards Embu when the accident occurred.
The vehicle veered off the road rolling several times causing serious injuries to the passengers who were on board.
According to initial investigations, the accident occurred due to a tyre burst. One of the commuters said they heard a tyre burst and the driver tried to stop the vehicle but it instead rolled several times.
Owing to the vehicle’s imbalance after the burst, the vehicle slanted and overturned on the tarmac road hurting the driver and some passengers badly.
Well-wishers rushed at the scene and helped rescue the passengers who had been trapped inside the vehicle.

All the passengers were rushed to the nearby health facility for treatment.
Police who visited the scene said investigations had been launched to establish whether the driver was driving at the required speed or was over-speeding.
