Veteran journalist Gatonye Gathura had been reported missing on October 26, 2021, before his body was found at the Naivasha Sub-County Referral Hospital morgue. It was earlier booked as an 'unidentified male adult' as he had no documents with him at the time of death.
According to the police report Mr Gathura's body was found dumped along Naivasha-Mai Mahiu Road, the same day he was reported missing by family members. The report further stated that a copper wire was found on his neck.
Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Samuel Waweru confirmed the report saying that at the time his body was retrieved, he had no identification documents with him. It was through fingerprints taken to the Registrar of Persons that he got identified positively.
“We are treating his death as murder. We suspect he was killed elsewhere and the body dumped in Naivasha,” Waweru told a local media house.
