In furtherance of President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big 4 agenda, specifically affordable housing, Makueni has partnered with Habitat for Humanity-Kenya to create an enabling environment for affordable housing to settle vulnerable Makueni citizens in properly structured settlements.
The partnership seeks to among others:
Support efforts towards the implementation of Settlement-Based Practices i.e., house construction for low-income families, WASH, social infrastructure;
Improve access to land and security of tenure in line with priorities of Makueni County. This will include digitization and digitalization of land records;
Strengthen ability of young people and women for employability and income generation through the support and facilitation of skills training, certification and linkages to jobs/enterprise development opportunities;
Support upskilling, certification and linkages of construction labourers to the market to support the incremental housing process;
Map out and strengthen financial institutions (MFIs, SACCOs, farmers’ cooperatives) to provide housing and agricultural financial services to low-income population;
Facilitate development/uptake and popularisation of alternative building technologies for sustainable, affordable and green housing in the county.
