The country was in a sombre mood after another athlete from Iten was killed in cold murder. Police broke into the house where Damaris Muthee's decomposing body was after they were alerted about it.
According to police, the 23-year-old could have died on Saturday, April 16, the day when she visited her Ethiopian boyfriend - the main suspect in the murder. It is also the same man that told his friends of the murder before the friend reported it to the police.

“The slain athlete had visited the Ethiopian boyfriend on Saturday and we are suspecting that she was killed the same night because the body is decomposing,” said Keiyo North Deputy County Commissioner, Julius Maiyo.
Mr Mayo further pointed out that the decomposing body had no visible injuries and hence preliminary investigation indicates that the mother of one could have died due to strangulation.
