According to the sources on 4th of December 2022 afternoon tragedy has struck Kitui County. A bus carrying Catholic faithful's was swept away while attempting to cross a swollen river Enziu in Nguni, Mwingi. Meanwhile, following the Kitui boss governor Kaluki Ngilu has now officially confirmed the people people died in the incident revealing that rescue efforts bared fruits after 17 survivors were rescued and regrettably 23 bodies have been recovered.
Following the governors current post on her Facebook account revealed that she attended at the scene of the accident together with Kenya Redcross personnel and law enforcement agencies to do everything possible to search and rescue as well as recovery.
The 30-plus victims were choir members of Mwingi Catholic Church, and were travelling to Nuu area from Mwingi Town. Police said the choir members were heading for their male colleague’s wedding, when the accident happened. Meanwhile, following the eyewitness reports revealed that the driver of the bus attempted to steer the vehicle past a flooded bridge, but the water tides were too strong, consequently sweeping the bus into the river.
