Benjamin Muthatai, a neighbour to 7 family members burnt beyond recognition in their house in Ngirimari village, Embu county has narrated last moments with them.
Speaking to KBC TV, the heartbroken 85 year old revealed that his close neighbours cooked in his kitchen as usual. They have been sharing the kitchen for years. They then told him goodnight at around 10PM and went to their house to eat and sleep.
At around 3am, he woke up and saw a bright light outside. At first, he thought there were cars passing by.
However, upon going outside, he saw a huge fire consuming the house. He tried calling his neighbours but they were not responding. He screamed but his screams only attracted two of his neighbours.
The fire was so huge and they could not do anything to put it off. By the time many people came, it was too late. The bodies had already been burnt beyond recognition.
The cause of the fire remains a mystery. Investigations are going on.
