Unknown gunmen in Soroti yesterday shot and killed a police officer, and his gun taken.
Sources privy to this desk revealed that the deceased was on daily patrol when five masked men accosted and the unfortunate incident followed.
Sorority deputy police spokesperson who confirmed the incident said the body of the slain officer was found lying in a pool of blood at around 6pm on Tuesday even.
"It is shocking incident, but we are investigating. This area has always been on the spot folowing the re-emergence of criminal activities," he said.
Police said the armed assailants yet to be arrested were on a planned robbery mission and were spotted by the deceased and a scuffle ensued.
The suspects wrestled with the officer and after being overpowered by the highly trained personnel, one of the suspects withdrew his gun and shot the officer on his chest and he died on the spot.
The suspects later confiscated his gun alongside 5 rounds of ammunition and fled to unknown destination.
The body of the deceased was transferred to the hospital mortuary as police hunt for the assailants.
