Former sports CS Rashid Echesa has been arrested. The ex- CS has been apprehended in western region one day after he was caught on Camera slapping an IEBC official in Matungu constituency during the By-election on Thursday.
Police officers have been hunting down the fugitive since that unfortunate incident. The former CS was said to have gone into hiding after he got word of his impending arrest.
Earlier Friday, The Inspector general of police had given Echesa up to 1 pm to surrender to the nearest police station to face charges for his rogue behaviour in Matungu. The IG warned Echesa that failure to surrender, the authorities will treat him as "armed and dangerous."
Kenyans have been calling for the arrest of Echesa on social media. Interior cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i promised that action will be taken against Echesa and all those politicians who took part in the cases of violence that were witnessed on Thursday.
