Fire In South Korean Road Tunnel Leaves Six Dead

Fire In South Korean Road Tunnel Leaves Six Dead.

According to the local fire service, a bus and truck accident that resulted in a massive fire at an expressway tunnel on the outskirts of Seoul has claimed the lives of six individuals.

Images of the scenario that appeared in the local media showed massive flames and smoke plumes coming from the tunnel as hundreds of firefighters fought to put out the fire.

According to a representative of the Gwacheon fire department, the fire was sparked at approximately 1:50 pm (0450 GMT) after a bus and a truck collided in the expressway tunnel in Gwacheon.

Images in the local media showed that the raised tunnel, which is intended to shield neighboring buildings from the noise of the road, was swiftly consumed by fire.

The official reported that the blaze had been put out by firefighters.

The officer continued, "We are conducting a search inside the tunnel in case there are any other casualties."

He noted that about 20 people were receiving treatment for smoke inhalation.

According to the Yonhap News Agency, Interior Minister Lee Sang-min called for "maximum resources mobilized" to preserve lives.

He stated, "I implore the authorities to make every effort to save the lives of those who have not escaped.

A Halloween crowd crush in the Itaewon nightlife district that left 150 people dead, largely young women, happened just a few months before to the catastrophic catastrophe.

A major source of national pride is South Korea's quick rise from a war-torn, impoverished backwater to Asia's fourth-largest economy and a thriving democracy.

However, a slew of avoidable tragedies, such as Itaewon and the Sewol ferry tragedy that claimed more than 300 lives in 2014, have eroded public faith.

Many South Koreans have questioned whether regulations and safety requirements were disregarded in the dash for development.
