Reports indicate that the Nakuru-based doctor who was suspected of killing his two children with a lethal injection has died.
According to the Nakuru County Commander Beatrice Kiraguri, who confirmed the incident, Dr James Gikara died on Wednesday, 22nd September in the morning while undergoing treatment at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital.
Over the weekend, police report said that Gikara, an obstetrician at Optimum Current Hospital, Nakuru, allegedly killed his two children aged three and five, before attempting murder. The lifeless bodies of the two children were found by the authorities at their Milimani apartments in Nakuru, with foam oozing from their mouths.
Police also said that they were able to recover “assorted drugs, used syringes and a sharp kitchen knife” at the doctor’s flat.
According to the Police Commander Kiraguri, Gikara unsuccessfully attempted suicide after killing his children.
Preliminary investigations shows that the doctor injected the children with a yet-to-be-established drug, leading to their death.
“The scene indicates some drugs were used on the children and on himself. A post-mortem shall be conducted to establish what type of drug it was, " Kiraguri said.
