Police have launched an investigation in Khwisero, Kakamega, over the case of an 80-year-old woman who is suspected of having been burnt to death at her house on Wednesday night.
The residents stated there was an argument over the money with her grandson, aged 40 years, who is suspected of having set the fire after a failed attempt to get money from his grandmother. It is believed that Philoris Lisero, grandson, set a blazing house out of anger while his grandmother was inside the house leading to her death.
According to the report, the family stated that Philoris was expecting to get the government's Inua Jamii cash transfer programmed to Ksh. 8,000 when he started demanding it.
The OCPD around the area, Mr Kipyego Kogo, has stated that the incident is based on the mentally ill suspect. He was attacked by the locals and was rescued by police officers after the incident. He stated the suspect must undergo a mental examination before being taken to court. However, the deceased body was taken to the Yala Hospital Morgue.
