The Kenya Meteorological Department Sends a Notice on Floods Alert to Kenyans Living in These Areas

The Kenya Meteorological Department has been playing a good role in providing accessible meteorological information to the general public. The company maintains an efficient telecommunications system for rapid collection and dissemination of meteorological facts. The information is vital for the infusion of scientific knowledge necessary for utilization of natural resources for national development.

The director of Kenya Meteorological Department madam Stella Aura has issued a circular on Flash-floods alert . According to the report, floods are expected to the areas harboring the border of Ethiopia and Kenya. The areas of concern are the counties of Mandera, Marsabit and Wajir . The company has attributed the cause of the floods due to the expected heavy rains of more than 50mm/24 hours over the Ethiopian Highlands. The heavy rains expected in the Ethiopian Highlands is likely to cause outflow to the neighbouring catchments in Mandera, Marsabit and Wajir. Residents nearing these counties are therefore advised to prepare for the consequences associated with floods as this may have a negative effect on transport and business activities.
