Detectives Tracing 14 Students Busted Smoking Bhang

Kirinyaga County detectives are searching for 14 students who jumped from a moving 2NK Sacco matatu going to Nairobi.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation confirmed on Friday, November 19, that pupils from Fred's Grammar Mixed Secondary School boarded the matatu to Karatina town for their mid-term holiday.

However, as he approached Kibingoti along the Nyeri-Nairobi highway, the motorist, identified by the DCI as John Maina, became suspicious after smelling a strong odor and witnessing smoke issuing from his rearview mirror.

Upon checking the rearview mirror, he was astounded to observe billowing smoke as the obviously ecstatic youngsters shared a joint among themselves and drank alcoholic beverages.

The concerned driver pleaded with them to stop, but the inebriated students got disorderly, threatening him with severe repercussions, while others advised him to mind his own business and focus on driving them to Nairobi, the statement stated in part.

Maina was therefore obliged to make a hasty decision, rerouting them from Nairobi to Sagana Police Station. When the kids realized the driver's intentions, they took a risk by jumping from the driving matatu.

The students left behind their bags, half-smoked joints, and half-filled liquor bottles as they exited the matatu through the windows.

Maina notified the police of the occurrence, prompting the school's principal to be summoned to assist in identifying the kids involved in the act.
